BT Yahoo! SMTP Security Upgrade

As part of ongoing security enhancements to BT Yahoo! email, we have upgraded the security to prevent emails from being sent from client applications (Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird etc) when the "From" email address is not either a BT Yahoo! email address or a validated alternative email address.
If you see an error 553 message, you will need to validate the email address from which you wish to send. Step by step instructions can be found at BT Yahoo! Mail Help

Important Message: Upgrading your Wireless Security

Your BT Home Hub already provides a basic level of wireless security straight out of the box. This allows you to get set up as quickly and easily as possible with a basic level of protection. However this basic WEP protection is an older security method and has proven vulnerable to dedicated computer hackers who could try to use your BT Home Hub's wireless connection to monitor your broadband connection or access your computer.

So we recommend that once you've set up your broadband connection you should change your wireless security to WPA and create a new wireless key rather than using the Hub's default key. To find out more on how to upgrade your Hub's security please go to: BT Home Hub security advice

Spam Emails
We have received a number of reports from customers who are receiving email which appears to come from themselves. The senders of bulk email (spam) use programs which can place random email addresses in the From field of the email being sent and this does not generally indicate that your account has been compromised. If the mail is being delivered to the Bulk or Spam folder, you need take no further action as the email has been intercepted by BT Yahoo Spam filter. If the email has been delivered to your inbox, then select the email and click on the Spam button.
