What does 'always on' mean?

One of the main benefits of broadband services is that they are always on. This means that once you have logged on to the service it will be there for you to use whenever you want it.

With most USB connected modems, such as the one provided with the BT Yahoo! Broadband with modem service, the connection is lost when you turn your computer off.

With Ethernet modems the connection is generally maintained irrespective of whether your computers are On or Off.

Please note that with USB connected modems the connection may be lost if the PC is not used for a long period of time. Also, with all modems occasional network interruptions may require you to re-establish your connection.
